Ordinary Miracles

I was driving along in my truck – listening to Sarah McLachlan sing ‘Ordinary Miracle’ – and realized that is what I love about every day here at The Meadow. It’s not that unusual, when everything is beautiful, just another ordinary miracle today.

The sky knows when it’s time to snow. Don’t need to teach a seed to grow, just another ordinary miracle today.

Birds in winter have their fling, but always make it home by spring, just another ordinary miracle today.

These four little Wellsummer chicks – hopping around my feet – are one of this spring’s miracles. They were enjoying their first day of free ranging in green grass and trees. They would venture out into the yard if I was sitting there. When I got up they’d run back into their covered quarters. Not a bad start.

I played music in the Cafe today. First time I’ve done that. The result was visible immediately. All the flock stopped and turned to listen. A few came over to check out my cell phone speaker. They were not as keen on vocals – but loved acoustic guitar playing mellow tunes. I’ve heard about this … it was magical to see it happen. They all settled down at my feet – keeping their heads turned to the sound – some closing their eyes and resting.

Can you imagine hearing music for the first time?

I am thinking coop lullabies are in our future.
