Yesterday the hens laid a record EIGHT eggs! Woohoo! The coop is in production mode.
The flufferbuff newbies are all laying now. They’ve got six laying boxes – all identical – to choose from. But invariably I find three or four eggs all laid in the same one. Some mornings it is quite comical to watch the girls pace in and out of the coop – growling at the hen that has the ‘favourite’ digs to ‘hurry up’!
As each hen sings her egg song (such a gentle way of describing the squawking yodel that sounds like OUCHY! OUCHY! OUCHY! to me!) Paddy paces with them and crows in empathy. It is a very active coop in the early morning hours!
