One of our poor Tweedles (aka hens) has been laying extremely large eggs. It is hard enough work having to lay any egg every day…

She is getting egg bound. That means she isn’t able to pass them. Their process is very similar to ours. The yolk leaves the ovary and slides along to her shell gland (think uterus). There is gets the hard coating and within a day is laid. When she isn’t able to pass them I bring her inside for a soak in a warm sink full of water. I give her some crushed up calcium which helps her muscles to contract and push. She quite likes the relief and often closes her eyes and snoozes on my arm. Usually within half an hour of being dried off (with the hair dryer) she lays the egg.

It’s not an easy life being a hen!
This sounds so painful! I guess if there were anything to be done you would be doing it, but poor girl. Sending love to her and all her people…
I will pass that along! ❤️
