It becomes rather obvious this time of year why our fur family includes two little goats. When I get the chance to be a ‘farm hand’ each spring I work with these little guys.

There are five kids in this stall and another pair of twins two stalls down. Seven little goats and three does that I’ve known for a few years now. Goats really are gentle creatures. Rascally, spirited, curious fast little creatures … so easy to fall in love with.

Little lambs … also very enchanting. I could not get you a picture of the bottle baby twins … yet. It is much too busy feeding two bottles at the same time to also whip out my phone camera. š They looked great this morning. The minute I walked into the lamb nursery room they sprang into action – nuzzling my legs, my boots, my coat … they knew there had to be a teat there somewhere! No problem with those two taking to the bottles. They are long legged ram lambs.

Back at our place new bales arrived – for the front and the back paddock. MayMay was more than eager to help get that all set up. You can see Goldie and Sophie in the background wondering why they are not out as part of the crew. I needed to be careful to not roll the bale onto the goats … didn’t want Goldie to be pressed into action! š

The jennies enjoyed their version of ‘licking the bowl’. I’ve learned not to just discard the muddy outer layers. There is some great hay packed in with that. So I unwrap it and leave those on the ground for a day or two. They love picking away at that. They have yet to discover there is an even tastier bale waiting for them in the front paddock shelters. A free choice bale with no hay bag. That will be a good lift for them in tomorrow’s rainy weather.

That’s the end of another beautiful spring day around here. Wasn’t expecting it to be so nice today. A brilliant surprise!
