A lovely day around here. We had snow flurries all morning that made it look like we were in one of those snow globes. It is mild … I feel like I should be crossing every limb and my eyes too. February has been kind to us – so far.
We had a good time staking out and measuring the dimensions for the outdoor Guinea coop. As preparation for their new outdoor ventures I have been leaving the top dutch door open. They seem to love it and will hang out there. I looked up once to see Darby go check out the racket when the roosters were all singing at the top of their lungs … not sure what happened but she only paused for a moment before high tailing it out of there. Hmmm… perhaps I’m not going to have to worry about the donkeys bothering the Guineas … may be the other way around! 😉
I was trekking around the woods this afternoon checking on the trees. We are going to need to create some protection for the large trees we wish to keep. One option is chicken wire … I’ve seen others create little oases of space for trees and wildflowers. We do have a ridge that blooms with columbine each spring. I might try protecting it as a ‘woodland garden’. There are two other spots that would be great as a space rather than simply a protected tree. The donkeys have lots of pathways around those areas. I think I need to do some more research to figure out some options. Options that will not be fodder for donkey chewing!
