If he were …

If he was here
He’d be 78 today
He’d have party hats for the donkeys to wear
And perhaps a monkey to ride on their backs.
He’d drive the Bully around like a wild man
And toss manure  (not sh*&) at me when I wasn’t looking.

If he was here
He’d be 78 today
He’d tell my mom she finally had someplace she could go
Where she could have a ‘horse to lay at her feet’.
He’d inspect the fence lines
And ask me when I was getting the goats and chickens.

If he was here
He’d be 78 today
And we’d go down to Kingston to meet Len
And tour around Lake Ontario on his boat
Then wind the day up at Mino’s
For more food and wine than we thought we could hold.

If he was here
He’d be 78 today
And family and friends would gather where he was.
A party would erupt,
And laughter and good stories and long tales
Would last far into the night.
