Where there’shade …

… there may be donkeys. We’re having quite the heat wave here these last few days. The donkeys moved from one shady spot to another all day long. I was glad to deliver some fresh hay to the lower paddock after dinner. So much cooler in the breeze down there. I learned something new tonight. The donkeys are crazy for the oak ‘flowers’ that are falling this week. They’re a sticky mess these flowers. Turns out they’re called catkins. They are the male flower of the oak tree. (The female flowers are very tiny now and they stay on the branches and turn into acorns!) Seems the donkeys are as fond of the catkins as they are of the acorns. Only … I don’t think we have to race them for the catkins. Thank goodness!
