This is Darby’s ‘BITE ME’ signal! It is uncanny to watch the reaction of the rest of ‘her herd’. When Darby bites her hip the other three move off … They know she means business. Her next move will be to chase someone, nip at someone, or herd them all to the other paddock. First and foremost in their minds … get out of the way!

I keep a close eye on the others … They don’t seem to mind Darby’s ‘mood’ as much as I do. There is always another feed bin, or another barn, a different stick or another paddock to choose instead.
