A few days ago we were enjoying lunch in our usual fashion – soaking up the sunshine coming through the big kitchen window onto our large wooden table top – when a Blue Jay alert went up. It is quite something to see two dozen Jays, almost twice that many Doves and a handful of woodpeckers and Chickadees all scatter in the blink of an eye.
In the second blink I was dive bombed by the source of their anxiety! No sooner had I found the hawk with my lens then he dove out of the hickory tree and came right at our kitchen window. He pulled up at the very last second and soared over our rooftop. I think next time I’m outside and I hear a Jay alert … I am diving for cover too!
