Ice Bead Fascinators were in style today at the Bird Bar.
We woke up to a soft new snowfall …
… however, before we could get breakfast done …
… the freezing rain started. And DID it ever come down.
I once read that Pierre Trudeau was quoted saying, “There is no such thing as bad weather. There is only bad clothing.” So, out we went to try to stay ahead of the ice.
I’m glad we did! After four hours we had the two paddocks, the Bully Road and the laneway plowed. I had started off with shoveling a path along the fence line so the donkeys could get from one paddock to other. Then I shoveled the doorways to the barns. We learned last year that snow with hours of freezing rain on top turns to a winter long ice blockade that there is no breaking through. I didn’t want to leave anything building up that I couldn’t get with the Bully plow. I left one little pile of snow to shovel away from one of the gates. But when I got back it had already changed into a six inch layer of ice pack! We ended up cutting it with a sharp edge and then got it out of there. I am so relieved we didn’t use last December’s strategy of letting the rain melt the snow. It didn’t happen then … and it sure wasn’t going to happen today.
