Last evening we left our front porch light on all night. It was a small gesture in support of the RCMP officers shot in Moncton earlier this week.
That light left a few surprises this morning. As I was putting out seeds I noticed what I thought was an old leaf stuck to the lawn chair … On closer inspection – not a leaf – a moth! And when I stopped to look at another ‘leaf’ I realized that the chairs and the walls were covered with all kinds of winged creatures who decided this was where they were going to rest out the daylight hours.
What a remarkable camouflage job this would be in a tree!
This one blended in with the white siding …
And this one seemed to think there was a white and blue theme he could just fit into.
This one looked like a stranded spaceship … with bat feet.
It was intriguing seeing so many different kinds all in one place.
We may just have to leave the light on again one night when our budding entomologist is here for Gramma camp later this summer!
She might want to camp out to see the action first hand. Love Kate
It’s amazing to see all the varieties that showed up. I’m leaving my porch light on tonight!
