I hope there are spring flowers popping up in your yard too. It reminds me of my mom when I am walking in the woods and finding ‘May flowers’ peeking out from under leaves and sticks still brown and dry. Spending time with Paco and Darby out in the woods and on the hillside has made me much more aware of what is out there. It is great to be looking for ‘poop’ piles but finding the sprouts of trilliums instead!
The daffodils have enjoyed the rain and sunshine. They’re doing a great job of glowing in the front gardens against the house. The donkeys don’t seem to favour their flavour! That’s a good thing as we’ve read that their bulbs are poisonous to mammals.
We spent most of yesterday morning outside moving brush piles. I wanted to get the hillside clear and Ede had worked hard in the backyard hydrangea gardens pruning last year’s stalks. That is why we were making runs through the woods with the Bully. Turns out the hillside has a bumper crop of mosses and blooms tucked into great hiding spots.
Meanwhile the gardens along the front porch are also ready to burst. It seems each morning when I walk by on my way to work the plants have reached another few inches in their growth spurts. On the left, sedum, and on the right, bleeding heart bushes.
It is exciting to realize that May starts this week!!! AND that by the end of this month the woods will be in full leaf. It doesn’t matter how many times I see spring arrive … it is downright heartwarming!! Hurray!
